The Indiana Pacers have signed Glenn Robinson III to a 3-year contract according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

Robinson was an unrestricted free agent after the Philadelphia 76ers passed on making him a qualifying offer to keep his services. The second year player didn’t post much in the stat column last season as he averaged 2.1 points a game in limited minutes. His pace adjusted numbers are more encouraging but he’s still a raw talent at this point.

Our own Jon Washburn pointed out in a staff e-mail that Bird is rounding out the staff with players that have room to grow.

“Most of these moves will mean almost nothing, but it’s good to see the Pacers take a few chances on low risk guys with high upside to fill out the roster, rather than known quantities like Luke Ridnour. Glenn Robinson was a big time recruit at one point and has a real skill set. He probably doesn’t have an NBA position to fit his body, but who knows what he can accomplish if he gets a few breaks.”

The Pacers have a much younger roster this year with Luis Scola and David West leaving as now Monta Ellis at 29 is the oldest player. He’ll turn 30 in October and Rodney Stuckey and George Hill turned 29 earlier this year.

The Indiana Pacers have overhauled their roster this off-season and for better or worse it has been good to see Larry Bird commit to the changes he spoke about instead of just offering lip-service. In the fall we’ll find out if it was a good idea or not.
