The summer of shake-ups for the Indiana Pacers continues, this time with a slight alteration to the coaching staff.

The Indiana Pacers will now face even more changes ahead of the upcoming 2019-2020 NBA season. Not only did the team part with 7 key free agents, but now there’s been a change to the coaching staff as well.

David McClure has been an assistant coach with the Pacers for just one year, but he’s been with the team since 2015. Before joining Nate McMillan‘s coaching squad, McClure was a player development coach for the organization.

However, McClure’s time with the Indiana Pacers has come to a close, according the reports from the Indy Star. He will now transition into a new assistant coaching gig with the Memphis Grizzlies.

What could be a selling point for McClure is that Memphis’ coaching staff is pretty young and inexperienced, so he could end up being able to secure a larger role for himself in the coaching hierarchy if he can prove his worth to his new team. He’ll get to help mold and shape the promising careers of potential young stars like Jaren Jackson Jr. and Ja Morant.

For the Pacers, there are still a trio of familiar assistants that are going to be on the bench with McMillan, including Dan Burke, Popeye Jones, and Bill Bayno. It remains to be seen if McMillan and the front office opt to add another assistant to the staff in order to take McClure’s place, or just run with three assistants going into the new year.

Regardless, David McClure was a welcome presence with the Indiana Pacers for the last handful of years, responsible for many an insightful in-game interview on Fox Sports Indiana as the team took the court again after the halftime intermission. Here’s to hoping he has a fantastic career with Memphis. Just maybe not when the Grizzlies take on the Pacers.
