Glenn Robinson III out for at least two months
By Ben Gibson
Glenn Robinson injured his ankle during the Indiana Pacers’ practice on Friday. He is expected to miss at least two months.
The Indiana Pacers season is still a month away, but the bad news is already coming in as Glenn Robinson III went down awkwardly on his left leg during practice.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Robinson III is expected to miss two months. Grant Afesth of Indiana Sports Coverage reported first that the x-rays came back negative.
After seeing Robinson III’s growth as a player last year, this is a setback in his development as a player as well.
When GR3 said he was going to become a 3-and-D player last year, it sounded like the standard talk from a player during the offseason. We always hear they are going to lose weight, add something to their game. But rarely, if ever, do they deliver on that promise.

But Robinson III’s work produced results. We saw Robinson III become a starter (at least for a time), win the dunk contest, and start to look like more than just a young prospect for the Indiana Pacers.
He raised his 3-point percentage for the second straight year. While he only took around two attempts a game, raising his average to 39.2% meant opponents would be foolish to leave him completely open. Robinson III’s game-winning 3-pointer over the Atlanta Hawks was one of the few highlights in a slog of a season for the Pacers, but it was a glimpse of what the third-year small forward is capable of.
With Robinson out for an extended period of time, it leaves a major gap in the Pacers lineup. There isn’t a third small forward on the roster and simply moving a shooting guard up or power forward down isn’t a long-term fix for the problem. Ben Moore and Alex Poythress could be called up to fill in, but there is little reason to think that’s a reliable fix to the problem.
