Pacers beat the Magic 85-74

This one got off to a rocky start, with second-year Pacer Georges Niang leaving the game just one minute in with a sprained knee.

The team, however, rallied in his absence, hardly ever trailing against Jonathan Isaac and the Magic. Trey McKinney Jones, a veteran of the Fort Wayne Mad Ants and a University of Miami alum, scored seven of the first nine points for the Pacers, shooting 50 percent from the field overall.

The Pacers won the rebounding battle 47-37, and took advantage of a poor shooting day from the Magic. No one on the Magic roster scored more than 10 points in this first game, making the Pacers victory fairly quick work.

Travis Leslie, another Mad Ants veteran and a product of the University of Georgia, led the team in scoring with 20 points and pulled down eight boards as well. He went on to be one of the stars of the squad throughout all five games.

Joe Young, the third-year point guard for the Pacers, had a pretty good game, scoring 11 points and dishing out six assists. His play would improve as the tournament progressed.

None of the Pacers draft picks would participate in this game, so fans had to wait an extra day to see T.J. Leaf’s NBA debut.
