Two games ago George Hill passed Austin Croshere in the Indiana Pacers record books, but how long will it be before he moves up a few more spots?
George Hill knocked down a pair of 3-pointers against the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday to pass Austin Croshere on the Indiana Pacers all-time list for made 3-pointers, taking over the 8th place spot.
He knocked down two more against the Utah Jazz to extend his lead over Croshere even further, but how long will it be before he’s knocking on the door of the next person on the list?
Here is the current top 10 list from Basketball-Reference.com.
As you can see he currently sits behind Mike Dunleavy’s 408 in 7th place, with Troy Murphy a little further ahead.
If we project his current pace, 1.9 made 3-pointers a game, we can roughly estimate when he’ll clear Dunleavy, Murphy and even Chuck Person this season. At the current rate, he’ll catch up with Dunleavy around New Years, with January 4th against the Miami Heat as the target date. It won’t be long after that, on January 13th when the Pacers play the Washington Wizards, that he would pass Murphy on the list for 6th place at 419 made. He’s on pace to move up to 5th this season as he’ll likely surpass Person’s 466 mark around March 4th when the Pacers take on the Dallas Mavericks.
He has a small chance of catching Bill Keller in 4th place with 506 at the end of the regular season, but at the current rate he would end up with 500, just a few short.
George Hill 2015 Stat Breakdown | PointAfter
Those numbers are based off his current season averages of 1.9 made 3-pointers a game on 4.6 attempts. Hill started off the season destroying the corners of the court with his 3-point shooting, knocking down 2.4 a game and shooting 5.3 attempts, a 45.3% mark from beyond the arc. However, after missing 3 games in November with a respiratory infection, Hill’s pace and makes have dropped down to 1.2 made on 3.5 attempts, only making 33.3% of his shots now from deep. Some of that may have to do with Paul George’ current supernova status, but nonetheless the George Hill that returned isn’t the same Aggressive George Hill™ we saw before.

It isn’t very surprising that Paul George is passing the ball less to George Hill since his return according to NBA.com tracking data. Before his three-game break, George Hill was getting roughly 12 passes each a game from both PG and Jordan Hill, but now both have cut that down to 10 a game. It seems since his return on November 24th that he’s been less aggressive and getting the ball less from teammates. That could be because of PG’s play, but something is still off with George Hill at the moment. I might be reading too much into body language, but he hasn’t looked as fluid and doesn’t look as comfortable on the court since coming back.
While George Hill will likely jump up to as high as 5th on the Indiana Pacers all-time list for 3-pointers by the end of the regular season, but the Pacers might be hoping to see the George Hill that was shooting 45.3% from 3-point range return back to the team.
