Would the Dallas Mavericks trade for Roy Hibbert? According to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, the answer is maybe.
There are several things in play for that to happen. Obviously the Dallas Mavericks would have to miss out on DeAndre Jordan and a few other potential starting centers, but after that it is a little more confusing. Roy Hibbert is in the final year of his contract so they would mainly be picking him up to clear the books for next year.

So would they be giving up Devin Harris, Raymond Felton, or Chandler Parsons? Would no players be involved for Dallas and Indiana might have to give up a pick or two for the Mavericks to eat Roy Hibbert’s $15 million salary? The Mavericks are under the salary cap at the moment so they contracts don’t have to match like they do when a team is trying to trade when they’ve gone over the salary cap.
MacMahon didn’t add a little of detail to what the Mavericks might be sending back, but outlined on ESPN.com how Dallas will need to fill the role of starting center if they strike out in free agency.
"Acquiring Roy Hibbert in a salary-dump deal would be among the backup plans for the Dallas Mavericks to acquire a starting center if they aren’t able to persuade DeAndre Jordan to leave Los Angeles, according to a source.…But trading for Hibbert, whose $15.5 million salary the Pacers have made clear they would like to shed, would allow the Mavs to fill their vacancy at center without making a long-term financial commitment. The 7-foot-2 Hibbert is in the final season of his contract.Hibbert was an All-Star as recently as 2013-14 but has struggled the last season and a half and doesn’t fit the Pacers’ plan to play faster. Yet, the 28-year-old has the size and ability to be one of the NBA’s premier rim protectors."
UPDATE: Adrian Wojnarowski says the Mavericks would look to do a sign-and-trade with Monta Ellis for Roy Hibbert. Remember, deals aren’t official until July 10.
I wouldn’t think to much of this as there are many dominos that need to fall before the Mavericks would consider a trade for Hibbert.
