UPDATE: Paul George and the Pacers issued the following, clarifying statement on Pacers.com later in the day.
"Paul George Friday night issued the following statement in regards to comments he made earlier in the day:“I’m still optimistic on my return and I’m hopeful to be practicing by March 1st and hopeful to be playing by mid March.”The decision for Paul’s return to practice and games remains with the Indiana Pacers’ medical staff and they will not discuss his return or clear his return until the appropriate time."
If you’re reading this site, you’re aware that George suffered a compound fracture to his right tibia and fibula during the Team USA scrimmage on the first day of August. PG went through injury and it was assumed that he would miss the entire 2014-15 season.
Well things have changed.
Team president Larry Bird told reporters earlier this month that if he gets healthy and wants to play; he can play. George hinted via his Twitter page ten days ago that a return to the court in March could happen.
He told the Pacers media two days later he has been participating in practice in everything except for contact.
Things are picking up.
The Pacers are 21-33 heading into the All-Star Weekend and are last in the Central Division. They’re two games back from the eighth seed which is locked by the Miami Heat and Charlotte Hornets. The Pistons, Nets and Celtics are also ranked ahead of the Pacers. Does Paul George’s possible return mean the Pacers are gunning for the eighth seed or is this to get him back in routine of playing professional basketball? If they try for the final playoff spot in the East, it starts off rough after All-Star break. They have games against Warriors, Thunder and Cavaliers to close out the month of February.
The recovery process is going well, and now we wait for festivity weekend to end for more information. Any news on Paul George’s recovery and possible return will be posted.
