The Indiana Pacers have two players representing their countries during the 2024 Paris Olympics. Star Tyrese Haliburton is representing Team USA, whereas guard Andrew Nembhard, fresh off a contract extension, is playing for Team Canada. For both Pacers guards, this is their first time earning Olympic honors.
As both guards aim to earn a gold medal for their country, it will be fun to see how they both perform throughout the showcase.
Tyrese Haliburton's game-by-game performance
Game 1: USA defeats Serbia 110-84
Haliburton's stats: DNP
In Team USA's first official game of the 2024 Paris Olympics, they defeated reigning NBA MVP Nikola Jokic and the Serbian team. However, unfortunately for Pacers fans, Haliburton did not log a single minute in the game. Team USA's leading scorer was Kevin Durant, who scored 23 points on 8-for-9 shooting, including a perfect 5-for-5 from the three-point line.
Game 2: USA defeats South Sudan 103-86
Haliburton's stats: 6 points (2-for-3 FG, 2-for-3 3FG), 1 assist in 7:37 minutes
Despite nearly losing in their exhibition game, Team USA dominated South Sudan this time around. Haliburton played a small role, but he was efficient in the time he saw on the court. Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo led the team in scoring with 18 points while shooting 8-for-10 from the field, including shooting 2-for-3 from beyond the arc.
Game 3: USA defeats Puerto Rico 104-83
Haliburton's stats: 0 points (0-for-1 FG, 0-for-1 3FG), 1 steal in 10:28 minutes
The Pacers guard saw his most time on the court in the 2024 Paris Olympics against Puerto Rico, largely due to Jrue Holiday's absence. However, he did not contribute much as he lost backup minutes to Holiday's teammate Derrick White. Regardless, Team USA defeated Puerto Rico in large part due to Anthony Edwards' team-leading 26-point performance off the bench.
Game 4 (Quarterfinals): USA defeats Brazil 122-87
Haliburton's stats: 2 points (1-for-1 FG), 1 assist, 1 turnover in 8:15 minutes
Haliburton did not check into the game until the second half of Team USA's victory. Regardless, the Wisconis native played well on the court despite his one turnover. Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker led Team USA in scoring, recording 18 points on 6-for-9 shooting
Game 5 (Semifinals): USA defeats Serbia 95-91
Haliburton's stats: DNP
In what was perhaps their most thrilling game of the Olympics so far, Team USA overcame a 17-point deficit to defeat the Serbian team. Unfortuantely for Pacers fans, they were unable to see their star player on the court as Haliburton was once again a DNP in the game. Team USA was led by Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, who recorded 36 points on 12-for-19 shooting and 8 rebounds.
Game 6 (Finals): USA defeats France 98-87
Haliburton's stats: DNP
For the third time in the 2024 Paris Olympics, Haliburton did not play in Team USA's victory over France. Regardless, the Pacers guard has done something only a percentage of other NBA players have been able to do, win a gold medal in the Olympics. En route to their fifth consecutive gold medal in the Olympics, Team USA was again led by Curry, who scored 24 points on 8-for-14 shooting.
Andrew Nembhard's game-by-game performance
Game 1: Canada defeats Greece 86-79
Nembhard's stats: 2 points (1-for-1 FG), 1 rebound, 1 assist, 4 turnovers in 14:05 minutes
Though he did not contribute too much on the stat sheet, Nembhard helped Team Canada defeat Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo and Greece. Toronto Raptors forward RJ Barrett led the team with 23 points on 8-for-13 shooting.
Game 2: Canada defeats Australia 93-83
Nembhard's stats: 5 points (1-for-6 FG, 1-for-3 3FG), 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 turnover in 22:51 minutes
Again, Nembhard left much to be desired on the court. Still, only five players from Team Canada logged more minutes than the Pacers guard in their victory over Australia. Once again, Barrett led the way with 24 points on an efficient 8-for14 shooting performance.
Game 3: Canada defeats Spain 88-85
Nembhard's stats: 18 points (8-for-10 FG, 2-for-3 3FG), 1 rebound, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 turnover in 21:28 minutes
Nembhard finally broke out and showed why he was selected to represent Team Canada this summer. His 18 points against Spain only trailed Oklahoma City Thunder star and MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who recorded 20 points while shooting 5-for-11 from the field.
Game 4 (Quarterfinals): France defeats Canada 82-73
Nembhard's stats: 0 points (0-for-0 FG), 1 assist, 2 turnovers in 14:54 minutes
With their loss to Victor Wembanyama and the French team, Nembhard and Team Canada have officially been eliminated from the 2024 Paris Olympics without a medal. In the loss, Nembhard only recorded an assist in nearly 15 minutes of play. Gilgeous-Alexander once again led the team in scoring with 27 points.
Despite a disappointing finish, Pacers fans should be excited about Nembhard's inclusion in the Olympics and what the future now holds for him.
