A former Indiana Pacers guard will reportedly continue his basketball playing career overseas. Four years after his final game with the team, 28-year-old Edmond Sumner has agreed to a deal with China's Sichuan Blue Whales. This news comes from Misko Raznatovic of BeoBasket.

Sumner most recently played with Žalgiris Kaunas of the Lithuanian Basketball League from 2023 to 2024. In 23 games, he averaged 6.9 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 1.8 assists. Sumner will join former NBA big man Greg Monroe and former Pacers teammate Kyle O'Quinn on the team.

Edmond Sumner was a solid Pacers player before playing overseas

Sumner played for the Pacers from 2018 to 2021. His career with the team started slow, appearing in 55 games over three seasons. In that time, he averaged 4 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists. However, the Michigan native saw an increased role during the 2020-21 season.

In what ended up being his final season with the team, Sumner appeared in 53 games for the Pacers during the 2020-21 campaign. On the year, he averaged 7.5 points and 1.8 rebounds per game while shooting 52.5% from the floor and 39.8% from beyond the arc. Sumner also started 24 games with the team, by far his highest total as a Pacers guard.

On back-to-back nights, Sumner recorded 22 and 21 points against the Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic, respectively.

Ahead of the 2021-22 season, Sumner suffered an Achilles injury that kept him out the entire year. In September 2021, the Pacers traded him to the Brooklyn Nets for Juan Pablo Vaulet.

Sumner spent the 2022-23 season with the Nets, appearing in 53 games for them. However, the team waived him that offseason. Sumner would go on to sign with the Charlotte Hornets, but the team waived him before he suited up for them.

This could signal the official end of Edmond Sumner's time in the NBA

Sumner has been out of the league for over a year now, and with his recent move, he is going to remain overseas for the foreseeable future. It is unclear whether the Xavier alum has any interest in a return to the NBA. Regardless, it seems like this is out of the picture. At least, for now.
