The Indiana Pacers have already built an ideal team around Tyrese Haliburton. They have given him a co-star (Pascal Siakam), a solid third option (Ivica Zubac), and great depth. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves just made a big swing to land LaMelo Ball to be Anthony Edwards’ co-star, and the Golden State Warriors are trying to pair LeBron James alongside Stephen Curry.
Edwards needed a co-star. Curry needs a new one, largely because Jimmy Butler is hurt. All the while, the Pacers have already done their work. They’ve already brought in the right pieces to help Haliburton win. And it can work. They made it to Game 7 of the NBA Finals. They just need to get healthy.
Indiana is in a great spot.
Pacers already gave Tyrese Haliburton his co-star
For years, the Wolves have been trying to get over the hump. They’ve made multiple Western Conference finals appearances, but they couldn’t make the Finals. They needed a better star next to Edwards.
This summer, they decided that Ball was that guy. They decided to bring Ball on board, giving up a ton of draft capital and Naz Reid to the Charlotte Hornets. They wanted to give Edwards a new co-star.
Golden State has been trying to do the same for Curry for a while now, too. Ever since they won the title in 2022, they’ve been trying to restructure things around Curry.
They tried Butler, but he got hurt. Now, they’re seemingly moving on to a plan that would see them bring James and Anthony Davis on board next season.
But both teams need depth, too. The Wolves are re-signing Ayo Dosunmu, they have Jaden McDaniels, and even though Donte DiVincenzo is hurt, they’re going to build out the bench.
The Warriors already re-signed Al Horford. They have Brandin Podziemski, Moses Moody, Quinten Post, Gui Santos, and others still on the bench. Depth is important.
Siakam is already in Indiana. Haliburton already has a co-star. And the Pacers have a ton of depth surrounding their two stars, who already have a history of winning together.
Andrew Nembhard. Aaron Nesmith. TJ McConnell. Obi Toppin. Jay Huff. The Pacers have great depth, and that’s as important as ever when it comes to winning at the highest level.
So, as the Wolves and Warriors take the summer to add to their star players, the Pacers have already done so. They were ahead of the curve when it came to helping Haliburton.
