On Friday, NBA insider Jake Fischer reported that former Indiana Pacers All-Star Victor Oladipo signed into the G League player pool. G League rosters were finalized on Thursday, before the start of the season on Friday (today), so what this means is that a team can file a claim for Oladipo, but there is a waiver order.

It's been four and a half years since Oladipo last suited up for Indiana, where he spent the best seasons of his career.

He averaged a career-high 23.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 2.4 steals per game during the 2017-18 season, his first with the Pacers, shooting 47.7% from the field and 37.1% from three. Oladipo played 75 games that season, a feat he unfortunately didn't come close to achieving again with Indiana.

Oladipo has dealt with a few serious injuries throughout his career, including in the second half of the 2018-19 season when he suffered a season-ending ruptured quadriceps tendon in his right knee. He played 28 games across the next season and a half before the Pacers surprised him with a trade to the Rockets (he was traded again to the Heat due to concerns about his knee) in January 2021.

The 33-year-old hasn't played a game in the NBA in the past two seasons. In Oladipo's last game in the 2022-23 season with the Rockets, he tore the patellar tendon in his left knee during Game 3 of Miami's first-round playoff series against Milwaukee. He was traded three times during the 2023-24 season, but never suited up in a game.

Oladipo most recently played for the Guangzhou Loong Lions in China, facing the Timberwolves, Clippers, and Spurs during the preseason. He also held a private offseason workout in Las Vegas in July, where several teams, including the Pacers, attended.

Given that Indiana has been decimated with injuries so far this season, not including Tyrese Haliburton's Achilles injury in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, Oladipo could potentially return to the Pacers after their messy breakup a few years ago. He supposedly looked well during his workout over the summer, but apparently not enough to sign with a team before the season started.

It would be a feel-good story for Oladipo to return to the NBA, regardless of whether that's with Indiana or not. You have to admire him for still trying.
