As NBA free agency draws near, the Indiana Pacers name continues to show up all throughout the headlines. And Marc Stein of the SteinLine has dropped another bomb as far as the Indiana Pacers summer plans giving us a clue of what they are hopeful to do.

In the wake of the news that Chris Duarte is being traded to Sacramento, a few moments later a report from Marc Stein emerged that the Pacers are the leading candidate to land Obi Toppin during this offseason.

For those following the team, the news should not come as a surprise. Toppin was a bit-time name surrounding the Pacers around the trade deadline during the season, indicating that the front office has had their eye on him for awhile.

And while Toppin never really exploded onto the scene in his time in New York, many believe that was mostly due to opportunity. Toppin never got substantial minutes on the court, and some analysts are saying he could be a big-time candidate to improve in the upcoming season.

Toppin would be a perfect fit and opportunity for this Pacers team to take a chance on.

Toppin perfectly fits the role that we need and could end up being dynamite in the pick and roll with Tyrese Haliburton. While much of his game has never quite come together in the NBA, he still seems to have all of the basic tools to be a successful starter or at a minimum, rotation player, in the NBA.

This could all be setting up for the Pacers preparing to bring two players into cap space in the coming days. With rumors connecting them to multiple players around the league, Toppin would be a low-dollar option given the current asking price.
