The Pacers added another player after the trade deadline, and the good news is that it is a familiar face.

James Johnson, who was waived by the Pacers after the deal with the Bucks at the trade deadline has been resigned with the Pacers.

Needless to say, many Pacers fans were upset that Johnson had to be waived, but there was a feeling that he might be resigned after the trade went through.

It seems that many of the Pacers have a connection with Johnson and that he truly cares about the young players on the Pacers team. Having him back is a net positive for the Pacers.

While this move won’t move the needle either way regarding the ceiling of the current roster, it is good to have a continued veteran presence in the locker room as guys like Mathurin and Haliburton continue to grow into the best version of themselves.

While Johnson hasn’t played much this season, he has logged a few minutes now and again for the blue and gold. In 12 games this season, Johnson has averaged 2 points, 1 rebound, and almost 1 assist. While those numbers aren’t going to blow anyone away, it is was Johnson brings off the court that matters most to the Pacers.

Player development should be the biggest priority of the Pacers

And bringing back a veteran like Johnson was done entirely with development in mind. Johnson knows what it means to be a pro in this league and the mental toughness players need to have day in and day out. We are excited that James is here to stay for the rest of the season and for the things that the young players will be able to learn from him in the meantime.

With the move the Pacers have now completed their roster for the remainder of the season and likely have the guys they plan to finish the season with.
