Indiana Pacers: Justin Anderson selected to All-NBA G-League First Team
By Zach Pearson
Justin Anderson joined the Indiana Pacers multiple times throughout the 2021-22 NBA season. He started the year with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants and made his way to Indianapolis as the Pacers battled COVID-19 and multiple injuries.
Before joining the Indiana Pacers, Anderson played 22 games in Fort Wayne.
When he received his third NBA Call-Up of the season on Mar. 17, Anderson was leading the NBA G League in scoring at 27.8 points per game. Anderson earned three call-ups this season with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Indiana Pacers in January before receiving the March call-up with the Pacers.
His call-up total (3) tied a Mad Ants franchise record with Jeremy Richardson (2007-2008) for most in a season. Anderson would spend back-to-back 10-day contracts with the Pacers in March, ending his G League season.
Anderson spent 16 games with the Indiana Pacers where he would average 6.4 points a game and 2.9 rebounds in 19.7 minutes a game. He would also start in six of those 16 games. He took to Twitter to share his reaction to being awarded first-team honors.
Anderson spoke on his G-League journey just before his time with the team would come to an end.
"“I had a lot of confidence in myself and I bet on myself to go to the G League and take the G League route,” Anderson said. “Major props to (the Mad Ants) for just helping me be myself, help lead that team. And then I knew that a blessing would come if I could just stay the course. I never looked too far ahead.”"
Anderson has now played in six NBA seasons since being drafted in 2015-16 by the Dallas Mavericks, in which Rick Carlisle was the head coach. Anderson also signed a 10-day contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers where he would play in three games with the team.
Now Anderson is no longer with the Pacers as his 10-day expired just before the end of the season.
