Indiana Pacers: Myles Turner will miss the rest of the season
By Zach Pearson
The Indiana Pacers will be without starting center Myles Turner for the rest of the 2021-22 NBA season. He has missed 31 straight games with a foot injury.
Myles Turner will not return to the court for the Indiana Pacers this season, despite making good progress.
Myles Turner last played back on Jan. 14, 2022, against the Phoenix Suns and hasn’t seen the court since. He was diagnosed with a stress reaction in his foot and the Pacers decided it was best to rest him than rush him back in a lost season.
Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news this Monday saying, “Turner has made good progress in his recovery, but the Pacers have only seven games left and will miss the playoffs”.
"” Turner, 25, has made good progress in his recovery, sources said, but both the organization and Turner’s representatives decided that it didn’t make sense to push for a ramp up and return with only seven games left in the Pacers’ season”."
Could this be the same for other veteran players that are out with injury for the Pacers? I would think it is more likely at this point. T.J. McConnell has missed many months after having wrist surgery on his shooting hand, playing just 24 games this season.
Malcolm Brogdon has missed the last four games due to “rest”. It does not look like we will see them this season as he has only played 36 games on the year.
It has already been announced that T.J. Warren will miss the rest of the season and is rehabbing his foot in his home state North Carolina.
This season, Myles Turner averaged 12.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks in 42 games this season before the injury.
"The Pacers President of Basketball Operations Kevin Pritchard said, “We will continue to work closely with Myles and we’re looking forward to his return to the court at full strength next season.”"
Simply, there isn’t enough time to ramp him up for the NBA workload and they decided this was the best route to go for Turner.
Unfortunately, we won’t get to see Turner paired with Haliburton through these few remaining games and will have to wait until the fall. Haliburton is thriving in the facilitating role, averaging 9.5 assists per game and playing 35 minutes a game with a depleted roster.
There will be a roster shakeup for certain next season, between the Draft and Free Agency for Indiana, the roster will look much different the next time we see Turner dawn the blue and gold.
