What are Jaden Springer’s strengths?

The thing that stands out when watching Springer is his ability to stay in front on defense. He uses quick feet and a strong frame to keep opposing guards from easy access to the cup. Springer also uses that positioning to set himself up for steals and swipes when attackers get into his chest.

He does an excellent job of staying aggressive on defense and forcing turnovers when his opponent gets ahead of himself. Indiana needs more defenders on the roster wherever they can find them and Springer brings a lot to that end. Steals, quick hands, and proper positioning is the foundation of his game.

Offensively, there is enough to like from Springer to warrant a lottery selection if you ask me. He is a strong driver towards the rim and does a pretty decent job of fighting through contact to get shots up or draw fouls. He attempted 4.0 free throws at Tennessee and knocked down 81 percent of his attempts from the line.

The only real concern with his driving ability is his lack of elevating off of one foot. He often seeks to leave from two feet, which helps stay under control, but it also slows him down and allows defenders to recover a bit.

Shooting was on his side as a freshman when he chose to launch. Springer connected on 43.5 percent of his threes but only attempted 1.8 per game. If he is given the freedom to shoot at the next level, he could become a lethal off-ball scoring threat in the backcourt.

Still just 18 years old, Springer has immense upside as a prospect and should be given a chance to shine in his rookie season while learning with his struggles. Going 13th overall may be a tad bit rich but the Pacers should have interest in his skill set.
