Even though the season is far from over and the league is currently in the heat of competitive playoff basketball, the offseason is something that all teams have in mind, contenders or not. And with the upcoming summer’s crop of free agents shaping up to be relatively weak, reeling franchises, such as the Indiana Pacers, may instead focus their big guns on the trade market.

In fact, Bleacher Report on Friday hashed out some novel offseason trade ideas which surprisingly included the Pacers, who missed the postseason for the first time since 2015, and are currently stuck in the middle with their present core.

Bleacher Report proposed an enticing deal for the Indiana Pacers and Domantas Sabonis

In the proposed deal, the Indiana Pacers will send All-Star Domantas Sabonis to the San Antonio Spurs for guard Lonnie Walker IV, center Jakob Poeltl, a top-10 protected 2022 first-round pick and a top-3 protected 2024 first-round pick.

At first glance, San Antonio’s package may be arguably too much for the two-time All-Star, especially with Walker IV possessing star potential, Poeltl being an elite rim protector and the two first-round picks which are generally highly-coveted, but Sabonis has already proven himself to be one of the league’s brightest young commodities. Better yet, he’s still improving at the age of 25, signaling that his best basketball is yet to come.
