Now that Jonathan Matthes has laid out his manifesto, here’s what he would do if he controlled the Indiana Pacers.

There are a lot of ways the Pacers can go this offseason, they might elect for some of the options in this manifesto, they could do something completely different or they could do nothing. That kind of runs the gambit, eh?

If it were me, the two moves I would definitely try to do, would be draft Donte DiVincenzo in the first round and trade for Heat PG Goran Dragic.

  • DiVincenzo – Indy could take the chance that he falls to them at 23, or come up with creative ways to ensure they get him by trying to trade up with the Clippers (picks 12 and 13), Nuggets (14) or Suns (16).
  • Dragic – He would give the Pacers a stronger secondary option in the starting lineup. The Pacers could offer Collison (off a career year, leading three point shooter), Al Jefferson (only partially guaranteed) plus the 50th pick and a 2021 first rounder. Jefferson provides Miami with either immediate cap relief or a mentor for a young Bam Adebayo; Collison a sure-handled point guard who is well cheaper than Dragic, the 50th pick gets Miami back into this draft, the 2021 first gets them into that one.

Beyond that Indy needs to figure out the power forward situation.

  • Bring back Thad Young with more years?
  • Do that, and/or sign Jerami Grant away from Oklahoma City as insurance?
  • Use the space Young opens up and make a run at Aaron Gordon?
  • Try to work out a trade for Kevin Love, Tobias Harris or Harrison Barnes.

For the wing spots Indiana could:

  • Just resign Glenn Robinson III
  • Trade for Kyle Korver
  • Try to sign Joe Harris away from Brooklyn or Wayne Ellington from Miami.

Everyone has their own proposed solution for what the Pacers could/should do. The one that really matters is what Kevin Pritchard decides. They will be decisions that will be watched very, very closely. They will forever shape the Pacers for good or for ill. And their arrival is almost here.

Next: Thad Young is more than just the glue guy
