Miss the Indiana Pacers win over the Brooklyn Nets? We’ve got you covered as we gather the best of Twitter from the night.
The new era in Indiana Pacers basketball tipped off Wednesday night as the blue & gold hosted the Brooklyn Nets. Goodbye to those fairly bland uniforms from the last decade and ten players from last season (including someone named Paul George… don’t quite remember him) and hello to new uniforms, a new practice facility, and ten new players.
Pacers fans were anxious to see how the new team would look after all the changes.
Here’s how Pacers fans & media reacted to the game on Twitter as it happened:
PREGAME
Oh yeah… the fans are ready.
Good luck on your 2017-18 season, #Pacers! pic.twitter.com/yTmawIOcfS

Good luck to our friends, the @Pacers, on their 2017-2018 season! We hope it's a slam dunk 😉#Pacers pic.twitter.com/q7Vojgzy8Q

And it looks like the city is behind them…
Let’s go!!!
1st QUARTER
OLASTEALPO! @8pts9secs
— Dave “Mortgages” Searle (@MillerTimePod) October 18, 2017
Shot the passing lane and threw down a tomahawk. Sweet.
Turner shooting the first 3 so so confidently
— William Furr (@WillFurrNBA) October 18, 2017
Pick and pop with Darren Collison and Myles knocks it down with ease. He’s going to get that shot all year long. He needs to take it all year long.
It took all of 5 minutes for Victor Oladipo to hit double digits first time for Indiana. Pacers by 1 mid 1st.
— Pat Boylan (@PatBoylanPacers) October 18, 2017
The Hoosier is ballin’ out. Uber aggressive.
This Pacers team is puuuuuuuuuushing the ball, I love it
— William Furr (@WillFurrNBA) October 18, 2017
No idea how many games the Pacers are gonna win this season. Pretty good idea you're gonna like watching them.
— Gregg Doyel (@GreggDoyelStar) October 18, 2017
Pacers lead 19-16 at first timeout. The pace is very fast and it’s very fun to watch.
Lance Stephenson is the first Pacer off the bench.
— Scott Agness (@ScottAgness) October 18, 2017
He’s playing small forward, replacing Bojan Bogdanovic.
The prodigal son is back.
Sabonis at forward. Dammit. Also Wilkins is man #9, not Leaf. Two bad things
— Tony East (@TonyREast) October 18, 2017
Damien Wilkins in the game for the #Pacers. His first regular season action in more than 4 years.
— Jim Ayello (@jimayello) October 18, 2017
Head Coach Nate McMillan stated he had a 9-man rotation. Wilkins being #9 was unexpected, but T.J. Leaf came in soon after.
Lance's jumper so far pic.twitter.com/bzMBtLHRgB
— Very easily distracted ☝🏾 (@freshface72) October 18, 2017
That jumper, much like my bank account, is broke.
End of the 1st quarter: Nets 30, #Pacers 29@VicOladipo leading all scorers with 10 points.
— Indiana Pacers (@Pacers) October 18, 2017
Pacers down one after the 1st. The bench came in and the offense stalled. Lance and Domantas Sabonis haven’t been able to show their pick-and-roll chemistry just yet.
2nd QUARTER
Lanc3 Threevenson
— iPacers.com (@iPacersblog) October 18, 2017
And a step-back three at that. All the fun.
Sabonis with a "crafty" play underneath. MIght've been luck, but he got it, then immediately gets another at the rim, an And-1
— William Furr (@WillFurrNBA) October 18, 2017
Nice start for Sabonis. 8 points and 3 rebounds in his first stint.
— Tyler Smith (@TylerSmith_ISL) October 18, 2017
Pick-and-roll chemistry has been re-established and Domas is feasting in the paint.
Seriously… it’s like watching a tennis match at center court.
He isn't the best Pacer of all time, but Thad Young is nothing short of likable as a player and a person. That put-back was nice.
— Dave “Mortgages” Searle (@MillerTimePod) October 18, 2017
Flying Thaddeus Young spotted.
— 8 Points, 9 Seconds (@8pts9secs) October 18, 2017
They may have spotted him at Indianapolis International Airport… that was impressive. This came after knocking down three-pointer. Pacers +5
I’m all for aggressive attacks to the rim from Oladipo. Good things happen.
— Scott Agness (@ScottAgness) October 18, 2017
Dipo has 4 steals in the first half.
— iPacers.com (@iPacersblog) October 18, 2017
Vic is all over Banker’s Life. Straight ballin’. Pacers +9
Looks like the Pacers can unveil their new logo. pic.twitter.com/jumW7Mti9k
— 8 Points, 9 Seconds (@8pts9secs) October 19, 2017
Nets fight back with a 9-0 run to tie the game. They’re much improved over last year.
But man, this is entertaining.
— 8 Points, 9 Seconds (@8pts9secs) October 19, 2017
It really is. If they’re going to be below average (record wise), they are going to be fun & watchable. We’ll take that.
HALFTIME
Halftime at @TheFieldhouse: pic.twitter.com/OnvmYsUaMR
— Indiana Pacers (@Pacers) October 19, 2017
Vic with 19 points, Thad with 11, Myles with 9 & 7 boards. The numbers are there. The defense, not so much.
Victor Oladipo on @Pacers' first half: "We have to play better defense, though. We're here to win." #Pacers lead 65-63 at halftime. pic.twitter.com/S2bRYuHf0L
— Bally Sports Indiana (@BallySportsIN) October 19, 2017
And Vic agrees…
#Pacers averaged 23 3-point attempts per game last season. They've shot 17 so far. (5 makes).
— Jim Ayello (@jimayello) October 19, 2017
This has carried over from the preseason. Looks like the team is emphasizing shooting from distance this year. One of the biggest failings from last year was not shooting enough of them, so this is a good sign.
3rd QUARTER
Bojan right corner 🔥
— Tony East (@TonyREast) October 19, 2017
Welcome to this evening’s proceedings, Bojan Bogdanovic. He’s been struggling with his shot, but finally got one to go.
That Dipo floater is pretty, I'm ready to see it all year. In control, soft touch
— William Furr (@WillFurrNBA) October 19, 2017
Did I mention Vic is ballin’? I believe I mentioned he was.
A 10-0 Pacers run gives them a 10-point lead and forces a Brooklyn timeout.
Victor Oladipo whistled for his fourth foul with 7:28 left in the 3rd. He has 21 of their 77 points.#Pacers up by five.
— Scott Agness (@ScottAgness) October 19, 2017
Pacers are starting to show evidence of fatigue, playing defense with their hands instead of feet. BKN is already in the penalty.
— Caitlin Cooper (@C2_Cooper) October 19, 2017
The foul trouble is mounting. Vic with 4, Thad with 3. Nets crawling back from the charity stripe.
Passing and dribble penetration left Lance Stephenson wide-open for a triple. Quality ball movement.
— Scott Agness (@ScottAgness) October 19, 2017
Lance is NOT gonna be shy from deep this year. He's taken 7 already
— William Furr (@WillFurrNBA) October 19, 2017
Keep shooting them. It’s going to be there all season.
It's just weird to see an open Pacer on the weakside... and actually see that open player get the ball.
— Dave “Mortgages” Searle (@MillerTimePod) October 19, 2017
Are you sure these are the Pacers?
Sabonis buries a baseline 2 and the Pacers take their largest lead of the night 90-79.
— Pat Boylan (@PatBoylanPacers) October 19, 2017
The ball movement is amazing right now. Everybody involved. All five starters in double figures.
Pacers were called for 7 first half fouls. They've been charged with 11 in the 3rd quarter. IND by 6 2:55 left in 3rd.
— Pat Boylan (@PatBoylanPacers) October 19, 2017
This and generally bad defense are keeping the Nets in the game.
Quietly solid game from Darren Collison running the point. Already has first double-double of season with 12 points and 11 assists.
— Wheat Hotchkiss (@Wheat_Hotchkiss) October 19, 2017
This isn’t your father’s Darren Collison? Maybe your older brother’s? Something like that. He seems much more willing to share the wealth than in his first stint with the team.
Bones with the big dunk underneath. Turner hitting midrange j's. I like the pairing of those 2 a lot
— William Furr (@WillFurrNBA) October 19, 2017
It’s all working on the offensive end.
First to 100 wins… it’s the law!
the pacers have 101 points with 1:30 left in the 3rd quarter hahahahahahahaha
— whitney medworth (@its_whitney) October 19, 2017
All the fun… ALL of it.
With the lead after 3: pic.twitter.com/Y2LlsJhb1W
— Indiana Pacers (@Pacers) October 19, 2017
Yo… that’s a lot of points.
Most points the Pacers scored in regulation all of last yr: 127. Pacers will need just a 21 point 4th quarter to match that. 106-98 after 3.
— Pat Boylan (@PatBoylanPacers) October 19, 2017
I mean… a lot of points.
Yeah, but only barely though.
Lance to Sabonis PnR. #ahhh #Pacers
— Tom Lewis (@IndyCornrows) October 19, 2017
It’s pretty… it’s sooooo pretty.
Pacers already have 4 fouls in the quarter. With 10 minutes left.
— iPacers.com (@iPacersblog) October 19, 2017
The fouling is much like P. Diddy… can’t stop, won’t stop.
Okay, I'm hitched up now. The Sabonis bandwagon is taking all comers
— William Furr (@WillFurrNBA) October 19, 2017
Pick-and-roll with Cory Joseph and Lil’ Arvydas rolls down the lane with and throws down a hammer!
— Derek Schultz (@Schultz975) October 19, 2017
Lance… coast-to-coast… and-1… and a shimmy on the floor. Pacers +9 and forces a Brooklyn timeout.
.@StephensonLance with the and-1! (And a shimmy.) https://t.co/yGgRPz4QNI
— Indiana Pacers (@Pacers) October 19, 2017
Energy is UP on the bench. Pacers lead 119-112 in the fourth quarter. #pacers #indianapacers #PACERNATION pic.twitter.com/15Zj5oC8mM
— Jenna Watson (@JennaRWatson) October 19, 2017
Because… LANCE!
Old Man Wilkins gets a bucket.
— iPacers.com (@iPacersblog) October 19, 2017
A man who graduated from high school in the same year I did just scored in an NBA game.
In other news, I’m old.
EIGHT #Pacers players in double figures tonight. All 5 starters having solid performances + big minutes from Lance, Sabonis, CoJo off bench.
— Wheat Hotchkiss (@Wheat_Hotchkiss) October 19, 2017
A lot of contributors… much different than years past.
Bojan Transitionbucketsovic
— 8 Points, 9 Seconds (@8pts9secs) October 19, 2017
The and-1 gives the Pacers a 10-point lead with 5:21 left.
What the Thunder didn’t realize when they traded for Paul George is that Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis were about to become All-Stars
— Dan Devine (@YourManDevine) October 19, 2017
The Pacers won the trade. This is the consensus. Don’t @ me.
Pacers bogging down on offense, struggling to get the ball to Turner, but he finds the loose ball and gets to the line anyway. Big play
— William Furr (@WillFurrNBA) October 19, 2017
Three possessions where the Nets switched the pick-and-roll and the Pacers couldn’t get it to Myles. Couple that with no weak side ball movement and the offense has stalled. But Myles getting to the line after an offensive rebound was huge.
Turner, 33 Savage. #Filthy
— Frank. (@frankdot_) October 19, 2017
He got 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 M’s… in his bank account.
A tip-dunk gives Indiana a six point lead with less than two minutes left.
Two big moments from @Darren_Collison on that possession. Passed up 3 to set up offense and run clock, then made layup off Turner pick.
— Mark Montieth (@MarkMontieth) October 19, 2017
He wanted to shoot that three so badly too. Pacers +6 with less than a minute remaining.
1-0#PacersWin pic.twitter.com/uaVkTrxX0V
— Indiana Pacers (@Pacers) October 19, 2017
This is the 26th time Pacers have scored 134 points or more in regulation in franchise history. Pacers are 24-1 all-time in such games.
— Dave “Mortgages” Searle (@MillerTimePod) October 19, 2017
Pacers win! The pace was crazy. The buckets were in abundance. The defense was nonexistent.
But it was fun! Right, Pacers fans?
i think i'm gonna like this pacers team
— Dylan (@ByDylanHughes) October 19, 2017
Pacers scored 140 and I'm gonna go drink two 40s to celebrate. pic.twitter.com/isdYYUhIh9
— Dave “Mortgages” Searle (@MillerTimePod) October 19, 2017
Hell, I don't care if they win 32 games scoring 140. That's more fun to watch than winning 39 while scoring 80.
— Derek Schultz (@Schultz975) October 19, 2017
Pacers win!! pic.twitter.com/JBG4VSAnFH
— Shekinah Young (@Mrs___Young21) October 19, 2017
Yeah… I believe the consensus is we’re going to have some fun this season.
