The Indiana Pacers need more defense on the team. That's no secret. They clearly have an offense that's good enough to win a title. The problem is that they don't have enough guys who can stop the other team from scoring. That's where this offseason comes in.

Indiana has already locked up their biggest priority in free agency. Now they have to get players around their two stars to put them over the hump. One of the ways they can do that is by trading for some defensive-minded players. One player would be a good idea to grab.

There are still questions about whether or not Andrew Nembhard is best used as a starter next to Tyrese Haliburton. His improvement was really impressive over the course of the season, but perhaps he's better off running his own unit. That's where this trade comes in.

The Pacers should consider trying to trade for Alex Caruso

If the Pacers want a guard who can really shut down other players, Alex Caruso would be the perfect target. There have been rumors floating around that the Bulls are looking to move him. So what would be a good package to get him to Indiana that won't be too much?

Trading T.J. McConnell and some picks should get it done. The Bulls are stuck in the middle. Despite ownership wanting to continue to compete, they just don't have the talent to do so. They need picks to help them in a rebuild down the line. The Pacers have a plethora of that.

Being able to trade McConnell would allow Caruso to start next to Tyrese Haliburton and give Nembhard the keys to the backup unit. Getting an elite defender to pair next to Haliburton might be worth it to give up a valuable veteran in McConnell.

Personally, I think the Pacers still need a wing more than they need a guard. Aaron Nesmith was solid, but he would do best coming off the bench. Nesmith and Nembhard are the two weakest starters, even if they are both pretty good. They have to figure out which of them they want to move to the bench.
