The Pacers' 7 biggest head-to-head winning streaks heading into 2024-25
As we get closer to the start of training camp, Indiana Pacers fans are eager to see their team return to action after the 2023-24 season. The Pacers shocked the NBA world earlier this year by making it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2014 when they were led by now-Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George.
Ultimately, the Pacers lost to the eventual champion Boston Celtics in a four-game sweep. However, any NBA fan around the world will tell you the Pacers gave Boston their toughest challenge of the playoffs. Furthermore, the Pacers will look to make another deep run in the second-annual NBA Cup after losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in the final round last year.
There are a lot of storylines to follow for the Pacers next season. However, some of the more unknown ones include monitoring how the Pacers perform against a few teams that have simply not had their number.
Heading into the 2024-25 NBA season, the Pacers have win streaks against many teams, including numerous rivals. There are already many noteworthy games Pacers fans should circle on their calendars next season. However, it is never a bad thing to add a few more and see how long they can continue their successful runs against some of the league's best teams.
9-game winning streak: vs. the Houston Rockets
Next time the Pacers can extend the streak: 11/20 @ HOU
The Pacers have had Houston's number a lot in recent history as they have taken the last nine games against them. Houston last defeated the Pacers on November 15, 2019. For context, James Harden was the game's leading scorer with 44 points. Additionally, the Pacers were led by Domantas Sabonis and T.J. Leaf, who scored 18 a piece.
4-game winning streak: vs. the Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons
Next time the Pacers can extend the streak: 2/1 vs. ATL, 10/23 @ DET
The last time the Pacers lost to the Hawks was on March 25, 2023. In the game, the Pacers' leading scorer was Jordan Nwora, who scored 33 points off the bench. As for the Hawks, John Collins led them with 21 points. Additionally, Dejounte Murray (20 points and 12 assists) and Clint Capela (17 points and 17 rebounds) had stellar performances as well.
As for Indiana facing off against Detroit, there is some extra excitement for next season considering their matchup will kick off the Pacers' regular season. The Pacers last lost to the Pistons on April 7, 2023. Jaden Ivey and Killian Hayes scored 29 and 28 points for Detroit, respectively. And for the Pacers, Buddy Hield's 22 points off the bench led the team that night.
It should be noted, however, that the Pacers were without Tyrese Haliburton, T.J. McConnell, and Myles Turner this game, whereas the Pistons were missing Cade Cunningham.
3-game winning streak: vs. the Oklahoma City Thunder
Next time the Pacers can extend the streak: 12/26 vs. OKC
The Thunder are many people's favorite to represent the Western Conference next season. They are a great team who were the No. 1 seed last season. However, it has been a while since they defeated the Pacers.
Indiana last lost to the Thunder on January 18, 2023. In the game, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Isaiah Joe each scored 23 points for the Thunder. On the flip side, the Pacers were led by Andrew Nembhard and his 18 points, though Turner recorded six blocks in the game.
2-game winning streak: vs. the Dallas Mavericks, Philadelphia 76ers, Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks
Next time the Pacers can extend the streak: 11/4 @ DAL, 10/27 vs. PHI, 11/15 vs. MIA, 11/22 @ MIL
The Pacers are on a two-game winning streak against four teams. Indiana's winning streak against the Mavericks is technically the longest-active one (last lost on March 27, 2023). On the other hand, the Pacers' winning streak against the Bucks, even disregarding the playoffs, is the shortest-tenured (last lost on December 13).
Regardless, the Pacers will have multiple opportunities against each team, three of which are realistic playoff opponents as well, to extend their streak.
