Pacers vs. Nets key players to watch
Indiana Pacers
Jalen Smith: The former first-round pick had combined for 18 points over his previous four games before having a big night off the bench in Monday’s win over Brooklyn. Smith finished with a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double, going 7-of-11 from the field.
Brooklyn Nets
Trendon Watford: The undrafted second-year forward was one of the few bright spots for Brooklyn in Monday’s loss. In 34 minutes off the bench, Watford had 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting. He’s now scored in double figures in five consecutive games.
Pacers vs. Nets prediction and pick
It’s now twice in the last three weeks where Indiana’s up-tempo offense (the Pacers are No. 2 in pace) has dismantled the Nets in a pair of blowout victories. The Nets are a top-10 team in taking care of the ball, but when they’re forced to adjust to Indiana’s high pace, they’ve coughed it up 35 times in two games.
Brooklyn has shot the ball decently in those matchups (47.1% in Monday’s loss), but the Nets’ defense (No. 17 in effective field goal percentage) hasn’t been able to get stops when the Pacers play their game. Indiana has the depth to continue to play its style, with three players scoring double figures off the bench for the Pacers in Monday’s game.
Indiana can get out and run, using its talented backcourt to pull away from the Nets on the road. The Pacers are 20-16-1 ATS on the road this season and Brooklyn’s lackluster offense (No. 22 in net rating) won’t be able to keep up. Run it back with the Pacers as a favorite.
