The Pacers postseason run starts in Milwaukee over the weekend as the No. 6 seed.
While Indiana has long odds to win the NBA Championship this season, +9000 at FanDuel Sportsbook, the team has some upside due to its potential path through the Eastern Conference. The team is now a coin flip in its first-round series against the wounded Bucks, whom the Pacers beat in four of the five matchups in the regular season, and the opposite side of the best team in the league, the Boston Celtics.
The Pacers, who have the second-best offense in the NBA this season, have a runway to a lengthy postseason run due to factors around them. Again, Milwaukee may not have Giannis Antetokounmpo for parts of this series which has shifted the odds in that one to a near-pick 'em. With that in mind, the team's long-term upside in the postseason also should go up, but it has yet to be reflected in the title market.
For what it's worth, the team is also on the opposite side of the Eastern Conference bracket as the Celtics, the consensus favorite to win the East. By putting off a potential meeting until the conference finals, there's an opportunity for the Pacers to continue in a possible second-round meeting against the Knicks, 76ers, or Heat, all of whom the Pacers won the season series against.
There's some upside in Indiana's path, and it's not yet reflected in the betting market.
