Pacers receive major Tyrese Haliburton update ahead of training camp
Tyrese Haliburton may have had one of the best years of any Indiana Pacers players in history.
The 24-year-old was selected to the All-NBA Third Team last season, the first such accolade of his career. He also had the best statistical season of his career and led the NBA in assists per game (10.9). On top of all of that, Haliburton led the Pacers to their first conference finals appearance since 2014 and won an Olympic gold medal with Team USA this summer.
In the Olympics, however, Haliburton was far from a star. The Pacers guard played a small role with Team USA and was a DNP in three games, including the final game against France. We eventually learned later on that Haliburton's lack of playing time was due to "a minor leg injury." Since then, nothing has been revealed about where Haliburton's health stands as the Pacers approach the start of training camp.
However, in a recent press conference, Pacers GM Chad Buchanan made it clear that Haliburton's injury is not a concern and the Wisconsin native will likely be 100% to kick of training camp, which is set to begin on October 1.
Tyrese Haliburton is fully cleared for the start of training camp
Buchanan spoke about Haliburton's leg injury, saying it is natural due to the wear and tear of a normal season and that it is no longer an issue for the guard.
"You go through a long stretch like that, you're going to have some pulls, strains, bumps, bruises like that," Buchanan said. "He's back participating... he's anticipated to be a full go for the start of camp."
Additionally, Buchanan confirmed that Haliburton is not dealing with any lingering issues following his injury and said "he seems pretty happy."
"I don't think so. He seems pretty happy. He did the conditioning test today. I think he's ready to go. He's fired up for the season."
It cannot be said enough just how important Haliburton is to this team. Since the Pacers acquired him in 2022, he has developed into one of the best guards currently in the NBA. In large part due to his presence on the team, the Pacers finished last season as the highest-scoring offense and had their most successful campaign in years.
Luckily for the Pacers and their fans, Haliburton is expected to be a full participant during training camp. As long as he remains healthy, the Pacers should stand firmly in the playoff picture and potentially solidify themselves as legitimate title contenders.
While training camp is less than a week away, the Pacers will not make their preseason debut this season until October 8 against the Atlanta Hawks. From there, it will be another few weeks before they begin the 2024-25 campaign on the road against the Detroit Pistons on the 23rd.
