Former Pacers center Roy Hibbert reveals biggest trash talker he faced in NBA
Before the Indiana Pacers drafted Myles Turner, who eventually became their long-time starting center, in 2015, the team had Roy Hibbert as their anchor for seven seasons.
Hibbert played an essential role in the Pacers' success during the early 2010s. With the team, the Georgetown alum was a two-time All-Star and a one-time All-Defensive Second Team selection. Hibbert also finished as the runner-up for the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2013-14 behind Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah.
With the Pacers, Hibbert faced some of the most dominant big men of the last few decades and naturally dealt with some of the game's most notorious trash talkers.
In a recent interview with Dom2K, Hibbert spoke about the first player he thinks of when it comes to trash talk in the NBA. Hibbert gave an expected and completely unsurprising answer--Kevin Garnett.
"In my rookie year, I don't know why my dumb*** did this," Hibbert said. "But when we were about to play Boston, KG just like sweating bullets, banging his head on the basket (stanchion). I try to go what's up KG?' before the jump ball, 'I'm a big fan of yours.'"

Roy Hibbert reveals Kevin Garnett as the biggest trash talker during his time in the NBA
It is no surprise that Hibbert named the former Boston Celtics champion the biggest trash talker in the NBA at the time. Garnett is known for the aggressiveness and intensity he brings to the game of basketball, especially on the court. Additionally, he has the reputation of one of the biggest trash talkers in the history of all sports, not just the game of basketball.
What makes Hibbert's comments interesting (and perhaps even a little funny), however, is that the Pacers and Celtics never faced off against each other in the playoffs while he was on the team. Not one single time. Before the Eastern Conference Finals this year, the two teams last matched up against each other in the playoffs in 2019, and both big men were well out of the league by that point.
This perfectly encapsulates what makes Garnett one of the most unique figures in NBA history. He was always intense and always dedicated to the game, he was hyping himself and his teammates up (and clearly left a lot of room open for trash talk) during a standard regular season game.
There are plenty of other well-known trash talkers in NBA history, such as Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, and Pacers legend Reggie Miller. Still, it would be difficult to find many other athletes who did it like "The Big Ticket" himself.
