Beloved Pacers legend on broadcast call for Game 2
By Mueez Azfar
Buckle up Pacers fans, because rainforests are coming!
After usually getting a combination of Spero Dedes, Greg Anthony, and Stan Van Gundy for their first-round TNT games against Milwaukee and Game 1 against the New York Knicks, the Pacers have a beloved franchise legend returning to where his legend was made, as Reggie Miller is set to return to Madison Square Garden to provide color commentary on Game 2 between the Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks.
Of course, Miller's assignment to the New York Knicks series specifically is no accident. Longtime Pacers fans and NBA historians alike remember Miller's legendary performances against the Knicks in the 1990s, such as his 8 points in 9 seconds, this website's namesake, or his infamous choke taunt to Spike Lee in the Garden.
With these performances in mind, there is no doubt Knicks fans have not forgotten them as well, and there may be some distraction in the air from the New York crowd as they throw some hostility towards Miller in between cheers for their team.
Miller, to his credit, seems to completely understand the assignment, as he reported on the Dan Patrick Show that he is looking forward to every one of his old rivals, such as John Starks, Patrick Ewing, Charles Oakley, and the rest of those legendary Knicks teams from the 90s.
With Miller on the broadcast and a fresh day of rest, the hope is that Indiana can channel that good energy into a rousing Game 2 victory in Madison Square Garden to tie the series 1-1 heading to Gainbridge Fieldhouse for Games 3 and 4.
Since Indiana lost Game 1 in controversial fashion with some questionable referee calls in the end, the team should be motivated and energized, ready to prove doubters wrong. Additionally, Tyrese Haliburton must step up in Game 2, with Reggie's arrival hopefully sparking something up in him to show why he is Indiana's great hope.
