Malik Beasley is reportedly receiving interest from multiple teams around the NBA, including the Indiana Pacers (h/t Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints). As they look to bolster their roster and remain competitive next season, the Pacers should absolutely sign Beasley.
The Pacers still have their non-taxpayer MLE available to use, which gives them an advantage to sign the Atlanta native to a bigger deal than most teams that may have interest in him. Furthermore, with Tyrese Haliburton on the shelf for all of next season, bringing Beasley in could help Indiana fix some of their problems in the backcourt.
There is a lot to like about Beasley, and if he is even somewhat interested in coming to Indiana, then the Pacers need to capitalize and make a deal happen ASAP.
Malik Beasley could add a whole new dynamic to the Pacers
Beasley is a legitimate sharpshooter who provides decent defense. Additionally, he is only 28 years old and fits the Pacers' timeline.
One of the most overlooked problems with the Pacers' roster is that they don't have a designated three-point specialist on the team. They have plenty of players who can shoot from the outside and can get hot, but they have been missing something that could unlock a key part of their offense ever since they traded Buddy Hield, and Beasley could be that solution.
Beasley has bounced around from team to team over the past few years, having played for five teams in the past four years. And, as it stands, he is likely going to be on a new team next season as well. However, Beasley has provided value everywhere he went, and he is coming off easily the best season of his career as he finished second in Sixth Man of the Year voting last season (only behind Boston Celtics guard Payton Pritchard).
There is a lot to like about Beasley's game and what he brings to the table, and it also helps that the Pacers may be able to sign him to a relatively cheap contract.
The Florida State alum would never be the star for the Pacers, but that's not what the team would ask him to be. Instead, Beasley would immediately become one of the most important bench pieces for Indiana next season, which could help elevate the team to a whole new level.
A deep playoff run for the Pacers is unlikely next season. However, they are not going to go down without a fight. As they look to remain competitive during what most would expect to be a gap year, it is important for them to put together as good a team as possible, and that includes signing Beasley in free agency.
