Patrick Beverley, who Indiana Pacers fans are familiar with for all the wrong reasons, has reportedly been turned down by the Perth Wildcats of the NBL as his fall from grace continues (h/t Olgun Uluc of ESPN).
"Last month, the Wildcats were offered 12-year NBA veteran Patrick Beverley, sources told ESPN, but chose not to meaningfully engage," Uluc wrote.
A little over a year ago, Beverley, who was then a member of the Milwaukee Bucks, got into big trouble with the NBA after throwing a basketball directly at fans during a loss to the Pacers in the playoffs. The Chicago native was then handed a four-game suspension, though he has yet to join another NBA team since the incident.
Beverley was unable to find a new home in the NBA last season, and he spent the year overseas, playing for the Hapoel Tel Aviv Basketball Club. Now that he is no longer with Hapoel Tel Aviv, however, the 37-year-old is once again looking for a new home, but it seems like things may not come to fruition for him.
Patrick Beverley may be done in the NBA for good
Regardless of how some fans may feel about Beverley, there is a real chance that he never suits up for another NBA team again.
Beverley has not played in the league in over a year, and even then, the Bucks were his fourth team in two seasons. At this point in his career, it is going to be incredibly difficult for him to stick around if he manages to sign with a new team down the line, though it seems unlikely anyway.
The Arkansas alum has a track record of being a pesky and annoying player, whether it be for reasons on or off the court. However, in any case, it became clear pretty quickly during his last couple of seasons that he had already played the best basketball of his career. Beverley might still be able to contribute to a contender, particularly because of his veteran experience and intensity, but even so, teams might have better options at this point.
There is not a lot going well for Beverley as it pertains to continuing his NBA career, though nothing is set in stone just yet. However, at this point, it may not even be just about the NBA. It is looking like Beverley still has interest in playing basketball, even if it is overseas. However, it does not seem like that interest has been reciprocated.
Beverley might still be a solid basketball player, but at this rate, fans may never get to find out. And for the Pacers fanbase, this might be exactly what they want, given his history with the team.
