The Indiana Pacers lost their summer league game against the Chicago Bulls on Monday, but in many ways, they got the last laugh. Second-year forward Johnny Furphy pulled off an incredible fastbreak poster dunk in the second quarter of the game, and this moment immediately began making headlines on social media.

While the dunk was impressive on its own, it is getting a bit of extra attention because of another viral still image that does not paint Bulls rookie forward Noa Essengue in a great light.

In the loss, Furphy recorded 15 points on 5-for-9 shooting, six rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks. While he put up a solid performance, fans all across social media are only talking about his viral moment (and for good reason).
Here are some of the biggest social media reactions to Furphy's dunk from players, fans, and other personalities.
Social media reacts to Johnny Furphy's incredible poster
Most notably, the Australian native got a shoutout from Pacers star guard Tyrese Haliburton, who shared a simple but big message on social media.
"Johnny MF Furphy sheeeeeesh🤯," Haliburton wrote on X.
Haliburton was not the only Pacer to give a shoutout to Furphy. On Instagram, Bennedict Mathurin also showed his support for the second-year forward (and may have also lobbied for him to get some more minutes in the regular season).
"@johnnyfurphy Oh he ready now🤣," Mathurin wrote on Instagram.
Furphy's dunk did not just leave an impact on Pacers players--it also left an impact on the team's reporters, like Tony East of Forbes.
"Oh my god, Johnny Furphy," East wrote on X.
The same goes for Caitlin Cooper of Basketball, She Wrote.
"I haven’t moved on from the Furphy dunk yet," Cooper wrote on X.
Additionally, many fans also took to X to give their thoughts and reactions to Furphy's dunk, both from his and Essengue's perspective.
"idc if bro goes on to win 5 rings, bro will never recover from this pic," one fan wrote on X.
"That dude just got posterized in summer league. Ouch," wrote another fan.
"Essengue has to find a way to get this scrubbed from the internet," a third fan wrote.
What could be next for Johnny Furphy
There is no denying that Furphy had an incredible moment. However, this does lead many to wonder what could be next in store for him.
Last season, Furphy only appeared in 50 games for the Pacers, averaging just 7.6 minutes. He looked solid when he played, but he was never likely to have a consistent role during his rookie season. However, things could look different next year for him and the team.
As the Pacers prepare for what most expect to be a gap year, they will likely experiment and give bigger roles to some of their younger players. This applies to guys like Andrew Nembhard, Bennedict Mathurin, and Jarace Walker, but Furphy is another player to keep an eye on as well.
Indiana has an interesting season ahead of them. Another NBA Finals appearance is unlikely, but they still have a lot of talent. And if Furphy's latest moment is any indication, he could be a long-term fit for the team as they look to re-establish themselves as title contenders.
