February 19, 2023: 18 points in first All-Star Game
With newfound stardom as the leader of your team, it was only a matter of time before the accolades came pouring in, and Tyrese Haliburton would not have to wait long. After spending the 2022 All-Star Weekend as a mere member of the Rising Stars Challenge, Haliburton played a far more important role the following year, as he made the trip to Salt Lake City not just as an exciting young player but an All-Star for the first time in his career.
Indeed, despite missing 12 games due to injury, Haliburton's 20/10 on 48/40/86 shooting splits was enough to get him in the All-Star game as a reserve, voted in by coaches as a reward for how well he performed and how easily he adapted to having a team to himself for the first time in his NBA career.
As for the night itself, Haliburton made Indiana proud, scoring 18 points on 7/9 from the field and 4/6 from beyond the arc to finish fourth on Team LeBron in scoring despite playing the third-fewest minutes. As it seemed, Haliburton was fully prepared for All-Star Weekend to come to Indianapolis the following year and decided to give fans a sneak preview of what he could do with all eyes on him.
Team LeBron ultimately lost 175-184, but Haliburton still made his mark on the court and All-Star Weekend. After tying records in the 3-point contest the night before, a solid All-Star Game was all the then-21-year-old needed to finish a successful weekend, and he provided exactly that, making Indy proud and probably angering Wally Szczerbiak in the process.
