Sure sounds like this Pacers trade candidate is not going anywhere this season
For much of his career with the Indiana Pacers, center Myles Turner's name has popped up in numerous trade rumors. Ultimately, nothing came of these rumors as the 28-year-old is currently in his 10th season with the Pacers. However, a mediocre start for the Pacers and Turner being in a contract year with no option to extend his contract has made him a potential trade candidate once again.
Over the years, Turner has been linked to multiple teams, with the Los Angeles Lakers being the most popular one. As there are quite a few contenders eying a big man with Turner's skillset, it is no surprise that these teams have interest in poaching the Texas alum away from the Pacers. However, in spite of it all, it seems that Turner is not going anywhere anytime soon.
The Pacers have not made Myles Turner available in trade talks, per Jake Fischer
NBA insider Jake Fischer recently spoke about Turner's current standing with the Pacers via the Bleacher Report app. In his report, Fischer revealed that the team had previously discussed potentially sending Turner, along with former Pacer Buddy Hield, to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Andrew Wiggins. This never happened, of course, as the Pacers eventually traded Hield to the Philadelphia 76ers before he made his way to Golden State anyway this past offseason.
Furthermore, Fischer reported that the Pacers have not made Turner available in trade talks this season amid his contract situation.
"There was a point in time where the Warriors talked about something between Andrew Wiggins going back to Indiana and Buddy Hield and Myles Turner going back to Golden State...I just haven't heard anything about Myles Turner being available this season," Fischer said.
In theory, Turner would have been a good fit in Golden State. He is another legitimate big man who can help stretch the floor. However, the Pacers opted to keep him on their roster instead, which was likely the right call. Turner is a good fit next to Pascal Siakam in the frontcourt, and he helps elevate the Pacers on both sides of the ball.
Through 16 games this season, Turner is averaging 16.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.9 blocks. Additionally, he is shooting 49% from the field and 42% from the three-point line. It remains unclear how much longer Turner will remain with the Pacers, but we at least know that the team is serious about re-signing him in the offseason.
The Pacers are far from a flawless team. While they have found a bit of a rhythm over their past few games, they still have a long way to go before inserting themselves back in the title picture. A trade to boost the team could be on the horizon, but it does not seem like Turner is at risk of having his Pacers stint ending before the offseason.
