Have you, yes you, ever wanted to flirt with a fellow basketball fan while your team flirts with building a lead? Have you, yes, again, you, ever wanted to combine falling (in love) with balling? Have you thought that your perfect romantic partner was watching zone coverage while you zoned off thinking of them?
Well, why don't you pick out a ticket and roll on over to the Atlanta Hawks' game against the Indiana Pacers? The Hawks, for some unknown reason, have decided to host a singles night during their matchup against their cross-conference rival.
The Hawks are not the first team to try their hand at match-making, as the New Orleans Hornets once spent their Valentine's Day in special edition jerseys while in Oklahoma City after the events of Hurricane Katrina.
Atlanta is also not new to having some, let's just say, eccentric event theme choices. Last year, the general NBA community was in an uproar about their partnership with a famous strip club, claiming that it offended fans and was a step too far into the territory of shock value.
The Pacers, for their part, probably had no clue they were playing a part in this. Even though love is in the air for this Indiana roster after Tyrese Haliburton's marriage ceremony this offseason, it's not hard to guess that there's some level of confusion here.
Still, if any Pacers fans out there want to try to meet their future life partner at a basketball game, and are willing to overlook that they will likely be an Atlanta Hawks fan, there's no reason this can't be a wonderful, albeit very goofy thing.
The one thing that's certain is that love is found in surprising places. Why can't it be at a Hawks - Pacers matchup? At the very least, it's bound to be a good game.
Hawks and Pacers are two teams bound in Knicks hatred
If there's one thing both of these teams are known for, it is their point guards picking fights with the New York Knicks. While Trae Young is now a Washington Wizard, Tyrese Haliburton is certainly keeping the tradition going.
Each of these franchises is trying to escape the pack of teams in the East sitting just behind the Philadelphia 76ers and NBA champion Knicks. With how much talent the conference now holds, it's hard to see either team being comfortably where they'd like to be.
The Pacers probably still have a better chance to differentiate themselves from the chaff of the league, considering their Finals run just two years ago, but Atlanta has a rugged set of defenders that seemed to be the only thing in last year's playoffs that could do anything to slow down the Knicks' offense.
While their promotional teams set up a mixer to promote compatibility in love, the actual rosters are perfectly set up to have one of the most compatible starts to a rivalry. They play in ways that counter each other, they are in similar situations that require them to go through each other, and conflict is always around the corner.
Does anyone else smell an enemies-to-lovers arc here?
