Over two years since he last suited up for the Indiana Pacers, former fan favorite Oshae Brissett has signed with a new team: Maccabi Tel Aviv BC of the EuroLeague.
This move comes as a bit of a shock, considering that he did make his way back to the NBA with the Philadelphia 76ers last season (and looked pretty solid) after spending most of the campaign in the G League. However, at least for the time being, the former Pacers wing will take his talents overseas and attempt to make his impact felt in a different league.
Oshae Brissett was a fan favorite in Indiana
After spending his rookie season with the Toronto Raptors, Brissett signed with the Pacers in 2021. Though he initially joined on a 10-day contract, the Syracuse alum ultimately spent three seasons in Indiana. Brissett has played for other teams, but the Pacers remain the only team he has spent multiple seasons with up to this point.
Across 153 games with the Pacers, including 43 starts, Brissett averaged 8.1 points on 41.4% shooting from the field and 4.5 rebounds. He was not much more than a role player in Indiana, but he still provided a lot of value. Furthermore, fans quickly became enamored with him due to his energetic playstyle.
Brissett was a sparkplug numerous times during his Pacers tenure and regularly played bigger than he was. He only spent a few seasons with the team, but it is clear that he left at least somewhat of an impact on the team and the fanbase.
In 2023, the Canadian native left the Pacers to join the Boston Celtics. He played a similar role in Boston, where he won the NBA Championship for the first time in his career.
There is no doubt that Brissett is a solid player who can make his presence felt on any team in the league. However, he had a hard time making it back to the NBA last season, even though he is young and was fresh off a championship victory. Even though he looked decent in Philadelphia during his brief stint there, it seems that making the jump overseas, at least for now, was in his best interest to get a consistent role.
It has been a while since Brissett played for the Pacers, but he still remains a fan favorite. Hopefully for him, he can continue to evolve his game and prove that he deserves a spot in the NBA.
