Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton’s Team USA competition for the 2024 Olympics: Back in action from 2020 – Damian Lillard, Jrue Holiday, and Devin Booker

If we’re going to gather a potential roster and gauge Haliburton’s chances, we really should start with the previous Olympic team in 2020 (technically 2021) and go from there.

This 2020 team won the gold medal, and although they weren’t exactly running over the competition like previous years (the French national team took them the distance and only lost by five in the gold medal game), they still had an amazing roster, with the clear MVP being Kevin Durant.

Team USA only had two true point guards on the roster – Damian Lillard and Jrue Holiday. However, with Lillard and Holiday both turning 34 before the start of the Olympics next year, Team USA might be ready to pass the torch to some younger blood looking to represent the country, such as Haliburton.

Despite his age, however, if Lillard is amongst the players that LeBron James is looking to recruit to represent the country in Paris, his inclusion could become more solidified as the date nears.

Plus, one would have to believe that Steve Kerr would pick an established, Hall-of-Fame level guard such as Lillard over the then-24-year-old Haliburton.

Devin Booker is another player to take note of, as he was a part of the 2020 Olympic team, too, and is now teammates with Durant. He will undoubtedly be a top choice next year.

Current outlook: For now, let’s put Booker in the “Probably tier, Lillard in the “Maybe” tier, Holiday in the “Not Likely” tier.
