After a somewhat surprising busy offseason thus far for the Indiana Pacers, there’s a chance that they haven’t even made their biggest move yet. It was reported recently that the Pacers have expressed interest in acquiring Pascal Siakam from the Toronto Raptors, who appear ready and, perhaps most importantly, willing to move the face of the franchise.
However, there’s still a reported “steep price” for any team looking to acquire Siakam. But that’s not the only issue that teams will face in attempting to acquire Siakam. There’s also the fact that he’s entering the final year of his current contract and there is no guarantee that he’ll sign an extension with any team that acquires him.
Trading for Pascal Siakam would be a risk for the Indiana Pacers
That’s where the biggest risk lies for a team with reported interest in Siakam, such as the Pacers. You’d have to imagine that there’s at least some backchanneling going on to give Indiana a good idea if Siakam would sign an extension with the team if they acquired him. But even some of the best backchanneling in the league comes without guarantees. And if that is the case with Siakam, the Pacers must then make the difficult decision of how much they’re willing to risk for him.
As internal discussions in the front office likely continue to take place revolving around Siakam, we explore five risky trade offers that the Pacers could consider for the star big man.
