Post-workout picture reveals Indiana Pacers are drafting the right way
By Joe Lyon
The Pacers have had some missteps with star players in the past. And whether it was on the franchise or the players is up for debate, but what isn’t, is that they are doing it the right way with Tyrese Haliburton.
After some pre-draft workouts, Pacers’ beat writer Scott Agness, posted a picture to twitter showing how the Pacers seem to be going about decision-making and debriefing after draft workouts from prospects being brought to Indy.
Many of the people pictured are people that we would expect to be there, with Rick Carlisle and Kevin Pritchard being the two names that are most expected and prominent. But to many fans delight, sitting right next to KP in the meeting is Tyrese Haliburton. Earlier reports said that Haliburton would be involved in team-making decisions, which many fans immediately applauded. And fans seemed to be loving seeing Hali in the decision making process, with many tweeting that this is a great sign for the movement of the Pacers franchise.
Having star player input is crucial to allowing for transparency and keeping Haliburton here for the long-haul.
It’s good to see the team back up the promise of involving Ty and not letting it just be posturing by the organization. The hope of many fans is that this will continue and that we won’t suffer the same potential communication breakdowns that happened with previous stars like Paul George and Victor Oladipo.
If this team wants to make it to the promised land, an NBA championship, we aren’t going to do it by creating the next super team. We are going to do it with heart, team chemistry, and buy-in across the organization (and a little draft luck).
Let’s hope this is the start of a long and fruitful partnership between the Pacers and Haliburton for years to come.
