Breaking News: Team USA will have Pacers’ player
By Joe Lyon
It is not often that the Pacers find themselves in the national media spotlight, but they have again found themselves exactly there. On Sunday it was reported that the Pacers will be represented on Team USA this summer. While it won’t be in the Olympics, Team USA will be competing in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, an event that still vaults to the international stage.
Team USA will be coached by Steve Kerr and will be looking to rebound from a terrible finish in the 2019 FIBA world cup of seventh place. Other headliners along with Haliburton are Mikal Bridges and Jalen Brunson, both of whom are coming off of the best seasons of their careers. It is likely that this lineup will be able to reclaim gold, although that is getting harder each year as the international game continues to rapidly approach Team USA.
Haliburton’s participation continues to put Indiana back into the national spotlight.
There have been a handful of events in recent weeks that have continued to vault the Pacers into the national NBA spotlight, with the NBA lottery, Haliburton at the Indy 500, Mathurin as a national NBA Finals correspondent, and Haliburton doing national interviews. Being part of Team USA should put more of a spotlight onto the Pacers in terms of international fans and eyes. This is a great development for both the franchise and for Haliburton.
With every passing week, it continues to look like Haliburton may be the long awaited for franchise cornerstone since Paul George left years ago. Many have looked the part with players such as Oladipo and Sabonis temporarily holding the position, but Haliburton is young and becoming a All-NBA level talent who can hopefully bring the Pacers closer to their ultimate goal- finally winning an NBA championship.
