Breaking News: Former Indiana Pacers’ coach to Phoenix Suns
By Joe Lyon
The coaching carousel has been crazy this offseason and many of the pieces and changes are starting to come into focus. The newest hire would be for likely the most coveted job on the market: the Phoenix Suns.
Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news that the Phoenix Suns are bringing in former Lakers and Pacers coach Frank Vogel in at Phoenix.
Vogel has seen success at nearly every stop he has had with the eastern conference finals teams for the Indiana Pacers and the championship team in Los Angeles. Additionally, he has had quite a bit of experience managing high-level stars in the in the NBA having Paul George in Indiana and LeBron James/Anthony Davis in Los Angeles. He will need every bit of that experience managing a high profile team that includes big names such as Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, and Devin Booker.
So what would we tell the Suns to look forward to with their new coach?
Vogel will bring a defensive presence to the team, which is probably something that the Phoenix Suns might need help with given their struggles last season. He hopefully will also give Phoenix a little bit more of a “tough” mentality, something that was a hallmark of his time in Indiana with players like David West and the defensive toughness of Paul George.
This is one of the two former head coaches of the Pacers that were actively on the market this offseason with Nate McMillan being the other coach who has yet to find a job. Perhaps Carlisle could bring him onto the staff to help build back up our defensive glory days?
