The Pacers have a big offseason planned and it appears that one of the legends of the NBA is going to be a part of it.

The Pacers announced via a tweet that they were going to be bringing in a new consultant to help navigate the team through the upcoming offseason decision-making, and to many Pacers’ fans it’s a familiar face.

Larry Bird proved he was quite the basketball mind during his time as a player in the NBA, but then went on to do some pretty amazing things with the Pacers on the coaching staff and as part of the front office. And while in recent years he has taken a step away from the NBA, it appears that he isn’t quite done writing his story as part of the NBA.

This could mean the Pacers are planning some substantial move in the coming months that they need additional insight on.

While Larry Bird didn’t do everything perfectly in his time in Indiana, he was often more right than he was wrong. Adding him to the brain trust of Rick Carlisle and Kevin Pritchard could prove at least fruitful as another voice in the room as they make decisions in the coming months. At a minimum, he could be a dissenting voice or an opinion that makes the team look at something in a new way.

While this could just be Carlisle and Simon bringing in an old friend to talk through decisions, it could indicate that the Pacers are ready to make some major moves during the offseason. There are multiple trades and draft options they could pursue that we have previously written about:
