This would likely be a homerun swing for the Pacers, and one that would pay off.
In this rendition of the trade, the Pacers would retain both Bennedict Mathurin and the number seven pick this year. I’m unsure if the Raptors would do it without number seven this year, so who knows how realistic BR’s suggested trade actually is. If KP and the team could pull this off however, we see this as a trade that easily grades out as an A. Here’s why.
The Boston pick this year is one of FOUR picks we have in the first 32 overall. That is far too many rookies to try and bring into the fold all at once and is a poor use of resources in all honesty. If someone like Toronto is interested in the Boston pick whatsoever, we should absolutely sell on it as well as future firsts. We would then have a young core featuring the following:
- Tyrese Haliburton at the point
- Bennedict Mathurin at shooting guard
- Aaron Nesmith at the small foward
- OG Anunoby at the power forward
And off the bench we would have young players such as:
- Whoever we draft at number seven this year.
- Andrew Nembhard
- Isaiah Jackson
That is a team that, with proper coaching, could develop into something truly spectacular.
