The Pacers have started their offseason and fans have begun to dream about all of the possibilities for the team. Fans are thinking about what players they could acquire, players they could draft, and massive improvements that many across the team could make. This is a necessary hope that teams who missed the playoffs must cling to as they watch multiple other franchises compete for an NBA title.

But the fans do have one thing to get excited about, and that is the fact that the Pacers took their first big step in the offseason. The Pacers ended the season tied in terms of record with the Washington Wizards and the positioning between the two teams in the draft was up to the results of a coin flip. The tie was the result of a disappointing win in the final game of the season that moved the Pacers back in their draft positioning.

However on Monday, the Pacers won that coin flip meaning that they will have the 7th best odds in the 2023 NBA Draft lottery (kind of). Although the amount of ping pong balls only marginally increased, every little bit counts in a draft as deep as this season’s headlined by Victor Wembanyama.

The downside is that nearly every other coin flip that impacted the Pacers 2023 draft went against the Pacers in terms of odds, including one coin flip that could drop one of their second round picks substantially. Only time will tell what impact these coin flips had on the franchise.

The upcoming draft is important for the Pacers

This offseason, the Pacers will have one of their most important drafts in recent memory. They have found a superstar in Tyrese Haliburton and have done decent in two drafts in a row. However, in order to continue to add the pieces they need to be successful in their rebuild they will need to hit on another draft, especially one as star-studded as this offseason.
