As a devoted basketball fan and aficionado, writing for 8 Points, 9 Seconds, I can’t help but express my enthusiasm for TJ McConnell’s potential spot on the Indiana Pacers roster for the upcoming season. McConnell’s unique skill set as a glue guy makes him indispensable to the team, and I’m convinced that his presence could boost the Pacers’ success even further.

Over the last few days the concept and notion of “Glue-guy” has been chiming in my ears so much and the first thing I think of surrounding the Pacers is McConnell. Also this piece has influenced me to dig deeper somewhat.

Having landed in the NBA’s top 10 for steals twice throughout his career, ranking 6th in 2016-17 and 1st in 2020-21, this relentless defender consistently frustrates opposing guards, disrupting their offensive flow. But McConnell’s impact goes beyond his on-court abilities; he’s also a savvy basketball player with impressive game intelligence.

From my perspective as a fan, TJ is always dialed in and seems to consistently be one step ahead of his opponents. As the most experienced player on the Pacers roster, he brings a wealth of knowledge to the team.

This understanding could play a crucial role in mentoring the team’s young guards, helping them hone their skills and tackle the challenges of the NBA.

There will undoubtedly be moments when these young guards falter, particularly against the league’s elite veteran guards. This is where McConnell’s experience and defensive aptitude will come to the forefront. His ability to impart his wisdom to the team’s young players, both on and off the court, will be invaluable in their development and the overall success of the Pacers.

As we eagerly await the next season, I’m confident that a glue guy like TJ McConnell will secure a vital spot on the Indiana Pacers roster. His intangible skill set, defensive prowess, and basketball IQ make him an essential asset that could propel the Pacers to even greater heights.
