Absurd news today: CBS sports lists Pacers among Doncic landing spots
By Joe Lyon
Are you ready to fall out of your chair with a Pacers’ dream so unrealistic, it almost knocked me back when I saw it?
A recent piece from CBS Sports lists out the potential landing spots for Luka Doncic given the Mavs are worried that he might ask to be traded from Dallas in the coming season. Given the dumpster fire that is the Dallas Mavericks, any team probably looks better than Dallas at the moment. As much as Mark Cuban tries to talk his way around it, unfortunately the Mavericks are in a terrible spot.
Because of the potential for movement from the perennial MVP candidate, CBS Sports put out a list of the likelihood of Doncic landing with each NBA team. When I first read opened the list, I thought to myself, “There is no way the Pacers aren’t in the bottom five.” However, much to my surprise, I kept scrolling up, scrolling up, scrolling up, to find that CBS had the Pacers listed as the 11th most likely landing spot for the point guard.
And while the fit would be strange, Tyrese Haliburton requires the ball in his hands after all, no team in the league would turn down the opportunity to have Doncic on their roster. Is he a bit hard to watch given all his complaining on the court? Yes. Does he take defensive possessions off and looks bad even when he doesn’t? Yeah. Would I take Doncic in a heartbeat? Absolutely.
This speaks volumes as to where the NBA community sees the Pacers have positioned themselves.
They are set to have a high lottery pick this year, a budding lottery pick from last year, a developing superstar, and the cap space to make waves if needed. If a couple of ping pong balls fall their way this season, the Pacers could quickly find themselves as a team with one of the brightest futures in the NBA.
