No matter what happens, win or lose, the Pacers are always going to be one of the central pieces of the Indianapolis community. And this week, the Pacers did some really amazing stuff to show the local Indiana community how they could give back.

On Thursday, the Pacers invited 6 students from the Independence Academy (read more about them here) to come to Gainbridge Fieldhouse for a day with the team. If you are wondering what the Independence Academy is, their vision statement is:

"To create the most inviting multidimensional school that provides students on the autism spectrum with access to an evidence based academic curriculum, sensory supported amenities, personal, social, emotional awareness and life affirming success beyond school."

And the students were given an amazing experience by the Pacers players. They were each signed to one-day contracts and given a personalized Pacers jersey with their name on it.

Not only that, they got to interact with multiple Pacers stars such as Tyrese Haliburton, Buddy Hield, Bennedict Mathurin, and Andrew Nembhard.

It’s always good to see players engaging with the local community and seeing another side of Pacers players.

It’s easy to get caught up in the day to day happenings of the NBA, but we should always remember the Pacers are part of our community.

Many of the players live here, they have family here, they have friends and neighbors, churches, community groups, and all other kinds of connections to the state of Indiana. And as much as we talk about whether players will get traded or who is going to sign somewhere else, it’s important to remember that Indiana, even if for a short while, is their home as much as ours.

Congrats to the six new Pacers players, we are super excited you got this opportunity, and super proud to be rooting alongside you for an NBA franchise that consistently demonstrates it cares about the community at large.
