Many Pacers’ fans have their eyes towards next season already. And because of that, many fans should be rooting for the Cavaliers.

The Pacers have two first-round picks in the upcoming draft, but can secure their third if the Cavaliers make the playoffs. Which the Cavs are able to do with a win today against the Brooklyn Nets.

Now, this pick won’t be a phenomenal pick, but it won’t be at the very bottom of the first-round either. Currently, these are the picks that the Pacers are projected to have: the 7th pick, the 25th pick (via Cleveland), and the 29th pick (via Boston). It’s worth mentioning as well that the Pacers are currently projected to have the second pick of the second round, which is nearly a fourth first-round pick. And that was the area that the Pacers were able to pick up Andrew Nembhard this past season.

This pick could potentially be packaged with the Boston pick to move up a few spots. It could net in another young talent. Or it could be used to trade for a co-star for Haliburton. In any case, more assets = better.

What should Pacers fans be hopeful for from other teams?

Currently, Pacers fans should be hoping the Cavaliers win just enough games to make the playoffs and that the Boston Celtics begin losing games (so their pick goes up a few spots). While it won’t make a dramatic difference, a pick or two could be the difference on a draft board, especially one as talented as the 2023 draft.

It’s worth noting that if fan’s are hopeful for better draft position, they should be hoping the Pacers lose a handful of their upcoming games in order to pass Portland and Orlando to get to the 5th pick overall.
