Our grade? This would be a knockdown A+ move from an Indiana franchise that doesn’t seem to ever chase stars.
This would be an amazing move for the Pacers to make, even if it cost a bit more up front, it is rare that multiple-time All-Stars at the age of 26 are available, so the Pacers would absolutely have to look into it.
Given the recent comments, it’s hard to know what exactly Brown is looking for out of a franchise, but it sounds like he wants to feel “needed” and “treated correct”. A small-market franchise like the Pacers are going to appreciate someone of Brown’s star-level much more than he is going to find in the bigger markets. Additionally, the Pacers have shown that they have a team-first culture that may allow Brown to feel like he is included and valued as part of the organization.
However, the media may just be reading into these comments far too much and Brown is really just trying to get some leverage in contract negotiations with the Celtics over the coming year or so. If that is the case, then there is nothing the Pacers are going to be able to do to sway him either way.
