Newest reports seem to indicate Anunoby is headed to Indiana Pacers

A reporter for the Toronto Star (@bruce_arthur) has confirmed that a mystery team has entered the mix with three first-round draft picks for OG Anunoby. OG Anunoby has been an excellent power forward for the Raptors in recent years and many NBA franchises (the Pacers included) have been disappointed they passed over him in the draft.

I’ve been racking my brain trying to think of a team that may have three lower-end first round picks that might be offered for OG Anunoby. Would you happen to know of any?

The Pacers trading their three first-round picks for OG Anunoby would be a steal.

Many of the first-round picks are going to be late in the draft with the Celtics and Cavaliers doing so well this year. The Pacers pick could be decent, but I’d be shocked if the Pacers didn’t put protections on the pick in case the bottom completely comes off of the ship.

OG Anunoby has been an excellent two-way player for the Raptors averaging 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists with excellent defense. On top of this, he plays the exact position of need the Pacers have nearly perfectly. And imagine the following starting lineup:

Ty Haliburton dishing at the point

Bennedict Mathurin driving at the lane

Buddy Hield being fire from behind the arc

OG Anunoby a defensive stopper and decent three-point shooter

Myles Turner an elite defensive stopper and decent three-point shooter

That right there is a team that could make noise in the east, even if they end up lower in the playoff race with Haliburton’s injury. And given that many of the picks that the Pacers have are in the lower half of the first-round, it is unlikely they would end up with a generational player coming from those picks (Wemby will be long gone by the time the Pacers are up).

It may be an unpopular opinion, but I’m hoping the Pacers go for it. And given the newest reports, I think it might even be likely the Pacers are the mystery team.
