8 points, 9 seconds grade: B

It is a bit of a risk to take on John Collins, but it could be worth it.

John Collins hasn’t shown the ceiling he was projected to show yet. This could be both a risk as well as a worthwhile shot at a forward for the future.

If Trae Young is unhappy, now would be the time to jump on a John Collins trade if there is ever going to be one.

Before this however, the Pacers need to decide what kind of team they want to be. If they want to be a team developing talent for a future run, this type of move makes sense. John Collins fits their timeline better at 25 and has multiple years left on his contract.

However, the Pacers front office may feel that they have the forward assets they need already, and can build better through next years draft. We don’t necessarily disagree, which is why this trade only received a B grade.

There doesn’t seem to be a great fit and John Collins seems to be having a bit of a drop off in his career.
