Option 2: Leverage many of our current assets in order to capitalize on the rumors and trade for Trae Young.

This may seem like a far-fetched option, but it may not be as absurd as it seems at face value.

Currently Trae Young’s contract is at 37M for 5 years. This could easily be worked out with some of the current veterans on the team. Let’s assume that the Hawks want at least 2 players and 2 first rounders in return, the trade could look something like this:

The Hawks may only jump on something like this if they believe that Trae Young will formally walk away in light of any issue with the team.

The Pacers would only jump on something like this if they believe Haliburton and Young could coexist on the court together (my hunch is no).

However, the Pacers would retain their own first round pick next year along with all the salary cap space they have to potentially bring in another star or sign Haliburton to his next big contract. Either way, it could potentially work if the Pacers want it to happen.
