Trade for a young rotational piece

The Detroit Pistons are a familiar foe of the Indiana Pacers. One of their forwards, Saddiq Bey, has been in the news recently as a potential trade target and this trade does exactly that. NBA Analysis Network gave the following trade scenario:

Indiana Pacers Receive: Bojan Bogdanovic and Sadiq Bey

Detroit Pistons Receive: Aaron Nesmith, Chris Duarte, Goga Bitadze, Daniel Theis, 2023 First Round Pick, Future Protected First Round Pick

At first glance, this trade seems to make a little bit of sense for the Detroit Pistons. Their season hasn’t panned out well and getting younger with draft picks makes a bit of sense at the moment. The problem is that the Pacers are giving far too much for one player that is likely past their prime and another rotational player.

The Pacers have youth and picks on their side, and this trade seems to give too much of that up for far too little in return. Perhaps without the second first-rounder, this would be even, even though it would continue not to make any sense for the Pacers to do it regardless of whether they want to tank or make a run. This move seems to move them in neither direction.
